Prof. Duflo wins John Bates Clark Medal

We are delighted to note that Prof. Esther Duflo of MIT has been awarded the John Bates Clark Medal by the American Economic Association (AEA) for 2010. The prestigious award is given to an American economist under the age of forty who is judged to have made the most significant contribution to economic thought and knowledge.

In its announcement the AEA has said “Esther Duflo has distinguished herself through definitive contributions to the field of Development Economics. Through her research, mentoring of young scholars, and role in helping to direct the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab at MIT, she has played a major role in setting a new agenda for the field of Development Economics, one that focuses on microeconomic issues and relies heavily on large-scale field experiments.”

Prof. Duflo has been an invaluable research partner of IFMR and has been the co-author of the Microfinance Impact Evaluation study which we covered earlier here. Congratulations Prof. Duflo.
